Magic Goggles
Before heading to Orlando to visit my parents this past week, I had a talk with Isabel about learning to swim (my parents have a pool). Anyone who knows Isabel is aware of her extreme dislike of having water in her eyes. I told her we would work on swimming at my parents and of course she was concerned about getting water in her eyes. To solve this problem, my dad went to the store and bought her a pair of pink goggles and had them waiting for her arrival. Soon after we arrived at my parents house, Isabel was suited up and standing near the pool. She donned her new pink goggles and informed me she didn't want to wear her "floaties". I told her she needed her floaties to swim but she looked at me straight faced and said "mom, just trust me" then proceeded to jump in the pool. As I stood there in disbelief she bobbed to the surface, sank under water, bobbed up again, sank again... the look of terror on her face growing with each bob. Before I knew it, I was in the pool fully clothed in jeans, shirt and shoes. After I pulled her out she said "I am never wearing those goggles again! They didn't help me swim!" Apparently she had gotten the impression that goggles magically made you know how to swim. Later on in the bathroom she looked at me and said, "Mom, I really thought those goggles would help!". Here is a video of her jumping in the pool.... goggles and floaties included this time!
